areas we target

SPEECH
Speech is how a child uses their mouth, voice, and breath to make clear sounds and words.
Fluency: The smooth flow of speech. Breaks in flow, repeating sounds, or getting “stuck” are common signs of stuttering.
Articulation: How sounds are formed with the tongue, lips, and jaw. Errors might sound like wabbit for rabbit or leaving sounds out.
Voice: How the voice sounds — too hoarse, too quiet, too loud, nasal, or strained.
Language
Language is how a child understands and uses words — whether spoken, signed, or written — to communicate.
Reading & Writing (Literacy):
How children recognize words, understand what they read, spell, and write clearly.
Understanding (Receptive Language):
How well a child follows directions, understands questions, and makes sense of spoken or signed communication.
Expressing (Expressive Language):
How a child shares thoughts using words, sentences, grammar, conversation skills, or sign language.
communication
Communication is the social use of language — how children connect, share ideas, and interact with others.
It includes:
Understanding Social Rules: Knowing when to speak, how to join play, how to read others’ feelings, and how to use polite forms like greeting, requesting, and asking for help.
Social Skills: Taking turns, staying on topic, and using language appropriately in different situations.
Nonverbal Communication: Eye contact, facial expressions, body language, and gestures.
